Ss Ausonia Cruise Ship
Paquet Cruise Lines SS RHAPSODY was built in 1957 as Holland America Lines STATENDAM.
Ss ausonia cruise ship. She was also lost in 1972 again off Cannes. In 1998 she was sold to the Louis Cruise Lines based in Cyprus. She was scrapped in 2010.
Many of the ships listed underneath originally belonged to the once vast Russian passenger ship fleet. The 11879 GRT Gross Registered Ton SS Ausonia was built especially for Adriatica Lines Trieste-Egypt-Lebanon service by Cantieri Riuniti dell Adriatico Monfalcone. With her elegantly finned funnel and curvaceous lines she was a miniature combination of the ANDREA DORIACRISTOFORO COLOMBO and the LEONARDO DA VINCI both internally and externally.
Oddly even for a liner all cabins below A-deck were windowless but on the technical side the ships were among the most advanced of their time. She was vastly rebuilt and completely redecorated and was really the first ship to sport the original stylings of Carnival architectdesigner Joseph Farcus. Cunard launched three intermediate liners in the early 1920s.
The SS LEONARDO DA VINCI was an ocean liner built by ANSALDO SHIPYARDS at Genoa in 1960 the ship was intended as a replacement for the ill-fated ANDREA DORIA to operate on the North Atlantic run with ITALIAN LINE she was as built 33340 GRT and had a top speed of 255 knots. STATENDAM was mainly a tourist class vessel but one of the keys to her success was the quality of her accommodation which aspired to first class. The name Ausonia originates from the ancient name for Italy which was named after Auson son of Ulysses and father of the Ausones.
SS AUSONIA a ship of sheer beauty. Built in 1971 as the NORDIC PRINCE by WARTSILA in Finland the ship was operated by Royal Caribbean and had a GRT of 18346 she was 169 meters long with a top speed of 22 knots. SS Ausonia was an Italian cruise liner launched in 1956.
In 1995 the vessel was sold to AIRTOURS SUN CRUISES and renamed. In 1980 the ship was lengthened by 26 meters the GRT was increased to 23149 GRT. The A Class of 1922 were the Andania Antonia and the Ausonia.
